June 1-5, 2026

We would like to say a big congratulations to the children and families for all of their efforts in completing EQAO standardized testing. The students stayed motivated and tried their best every day last week.

Language: We are continuing to read Harry Potter (the first novel in the series). We are working on our listening comprehension skills and using various Kahoots to see if we are understanding what has been read to us.

Science: We are studying everything we can about plants and are working on an independent project on a plant of our choice!

Drama: Students are working very hard on their reader's theatre play. They are using expression, tone of voice, and a clear voice to act as their character.

Music: We are beginning to learn about the different instrument families and how they make sounds (woodwinds, strings, brass, percussion). Each student will begin a research project about an instrument of their choice and present them to the class so we may all learn more about the different instruments played in our world!

Harry Potter Party - June 17th
Students are asked to arrive at school wearing a white shirt if possible or other wizard attire! We would love to make our party very special for your children and we need your help please. A big part of the Harry Potter world centres around the feast in the great hall at Hogwarts. We will be transforming our classrooms into this hall and would love if students were able to bring their own special lunch with a few Harry Potter themed items. Since we are not able to share food within the classroom, (many various allergies etc.) we encourage you to be as creative as possible with your own child's lunch and snacks that day. Here are a few suggested websites where you can get some great ideas:
Homework:
Perform 20 minutes of physical activity every day (e.g. go for a walk as a family or enjoy time on a play structure).

Looking Ahead:
Friday, June 5: PD Day (no school for students).
Wednesday, June 10:
Upper Canada Village Field Trip (parent volunteers have been contacted)
Wednesday, June 17: Harry Potter Party
Thursday, June 25: Last day of school

We continue to read Harry Potter on a daily basis.

May 18-22, 2026

Language: We have completed our persuasive writing unit and we will start our review of language concepts in preparation for EQAO.

Drama: This week we will continue presenting our reader's theatre plays and learning from our peers what we are doing well and what we need to work on to make our plays better.

Math: We have finished our unit on mass and capacity. Our final math unit will be on location and movement. We will be using directional cues to describe movement from one location to another. We will be using terms such as: North, South, East, West, clockwise, counter-clockwise, left, right, quarter turn, half turn, etc.

Science: We are continuing to learn about plants. Please remind your child to plant the gladiolus bulbs outside if you are able to find a little place in your garden. The plants may need a little support (a small stake placed near them) so they do not topple over! Flowers should take form sometime in late June or July!

In preparation for EQAO next week, please ensure your child gets a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast each day. These two actions will help your child have the energy and alertness to put forth their best effort for each testing session. Students will complete two sections each morning. We will begin promptly at 9:00 and will be finished by 11:45 a.m. from Monday through Thursday. On Friday we will complete the questionnaire as a whole group.

Looking Ahead:
Monday May 18th: Victoria Day holiday (no school)
May 25-29 (a.m. each day): EQAO for grade 3 students
Friday, June 5th: PD Day (no school for students)

Happy Mother's Day to all of our amazing Moms who make our lives better each and every day. Thank you for all you do! We hope you will enjoy your Mother's Day Gladiolus plant (we recommend planting these outside either in a new bigger pot or in the ground!).

***Please look for a permission form coming home on Tuesday for our trip to Upper Canada Village  - please return the form as soon as possible!***

Mathematics: We completed our unit on probability. Our next unit will be on mass and capacity. Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold (ml, l). Mass is measured in g and kg.

Language: We are continuing to learn about writing persuasive letters. We will also work on a reading comprehension passage and show our understanding by using proof from the text to answer questions. Learning how to write an announcement will be up next!

Drama: after missing drama for a few weeks, we will continue working on our reader's theatre plays. We will then present them and learn from our peers what we are doing well and what we need to work on to make our plays better .

Science: We are continuing our study of plants. Our focus this week is on flowers and what their role is.

Looking ahead:
Friday May 15th- last EQAO homework booklet due
Monday May 18 - Victoria Day (no school)
May 25 - May 29 (a.m. each day): EQAO for grade 3 students (please ensure your child is at school on time each morning that week).
